Prendiamoci una pausa explores a little-explored moment in romantic relationships: taking a break. That complicated limbo where couples find they can’t be together but can’t leave one another either, where relations – increasingly tested by temptations and hectic lifestyles – run the risk of slipping into second place. This suspended period in time is explored through the emblematic stories of three couples: for forty-year-old Fabrizio, it’s an emotional disaster concealing other issues; for his partner Valeria, it’s an opportunity; for Valter, who’s nearing sixty, it’s an unacceptable wrong imposed on him by his wife Fiorella, to whom he’s been married for thirty years, whereas, for her, it’s a necessity; for nineteen-year-old Erica it’s a bump in the road; for her boyfriend Gabriel, whom she met online, it conceals his need to find himself.
